bio

As a qualified building surveyor, Chris worked closely with architects, his interest in both new and old architecture grew to an extent that he spent much leisure time drawing fine details of buildings of interest. Here he developed a keen eye and became proficient in producing accurate perspective. Having extensive vacations in Italy Chris’s passion was to paint ‘en plein air’, the beautiful surroundings with inspiring architecture and many varied landscapes held a particular interest in the way changing shadows of the day influenced the mood of how the image would/could be portrayed. All his work is original and is either painted on location or from many detailed photographs that he has taken himself. Chris paints with a variety of media including watercolours, acrylics, oils and pastels. In the summer of 2010 Chris was invited to take part in a professional art competition in Tuscany Italy, this required an image painted ‘en plein air’ within a limited time period, depicting the architecture within the walls of the city of Castiglion Fiorentino and was delighted to achieve second prize and best watercolour. In 2023 he was a finalist in the prestigious International Broadway Art Festival. His work is present in many private collections at Home and Abroad. He also has a Gallery in Kinsham Gloucestershire, open by appointment. Please see website for ‘Open Studio Days’.
