Helena Zabko Phillips - Lemons and Eucaliptus

THIS FRIDAY'S FEATURED ARTIST IS STILL LIFE PAINTER HELENA ZABKO PHILLIPS

Helena's work centres around her poignant and at times intense Still Lifes. Painting in oils she directs their versatility to calm serenity, creating works infused with tension yet emanating a sense of peace. Her skilful technique accompanied by her care and attention to her subjects leads to works which highlight the quiet beauty in everyday objects, elevating simple vases or fruits to artworks a viewer could spend hours with.

Helena spent her formative years living on a remote Welsh hill farm and accredits this upbringing to her appreciation of the her surroundings and the way she is able to dial into the quiet and see deeply. It is this connection with her curated environment and her ability to convey this sense of stillness that which speaks to the viewer of her works and gives her subjects resonance. Setting up a still life is an important part of Helena's process and this attention to detail, time and feeling comes together to create balanced compositions depicting interesting relationships between different objects and their space.

With a beautiful show at Sixteen Gallery last year, and some visitor favourites at the Postcard exhibition, look out for what she is up to this year and where you can find her work in real life this year. Take a peek at her portfolio to see her latest pieces and get in touch.
