ARTIST FEATURE - TAMSIN HYDE

ARTISTS | FEATURES

Abstract painting with bold strokes in pink, yellow, black, and gray. Colors blend in a soft, flowing manner, creating a serene mood.

THIS WEEK OUR FEATURED ARTIST IS TAMSIN HYDE

Tamsin Hyde is a painter based in Cheltenham, interested in exploring internal and external landscapes through an abstract lens. She paints using oils, forming a dialogue with memory and imagination, at times serene, at others intense.

Using a very muted colour palette she depicts places and thoughts through expressive, frantic yet thoughtful marks, allowing the texture of paint to lead the building of feeling and atmosphere. These dull tones give a peaceful, contemplative feel to her work, drawing the viewer in through lullaby, not confrontation. They allow for a sense of reflection on both the artist and the viewer.

Her compositions are often tranquil, yet at times jarring, snapping the viewer out of a stupor to focus on a detail or follow a train of thought. Works range in abstraction from clear ideas of a landscape, with elements of the natural and the manmade, to intense quiet inner screaming. She paints with a sincerity and intensity, with purpose to her making and choices, rendering pieces which are delicate but not fragile.

To see her work in person, Tamsin will be exhibiting in Sixteen Gallery, Cheltenham at the end of June.
