Twelve Months
25th -31st August 2022
Andy Bradley
The exhibition title 'Twelve Months' relates to a conversation between two friends made in August 2021 when it was suggested that in exactly one year's time Andy would show a completely new body of work at Sixteen Gallery.
This was an exciting and inspiring challenge for him, since he had not exhibited his work to the public for more than 30 years.
Since graduating from Chelsea in 1982 he has had a very successful career as a decorative artist, and he has spent many years using his painting skills to create trompe l'oeil paintings and murals, transforming the interiors of beautiful houses all over the UK and Europe.
Although this kind of work has been very creative and inspirational, it has always been his ambition to continue with the kind of painting that is his real passion and this has been the perfect opportunity to go back to his roots.
In this new work you can see that Andy Bradley's paintings convey an energetic, colourful and playful response to their subject.
Using still life, landscapes and gardens as a starting point he explores the duality between reference and abstracted form in the search of its essence.
He uses a variety of drawing and painting techniques in his work and likes to combine acrylic paint and collage with both abstract and realistic imagery.
Andy's studio is based in Stroud and all of the paintings in this exhibition are new, and have been made in the last twelve months. He completed a B.A. Hons in Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire in 1979 and an MA in painting from Chelsea College of Art in 1982.
